a trip to the peaks...

I have been wanting to go up to the Peaks for awhile now. When it finally got warm, I was pregnant and didn't really feel like walking very far. So now that Sydney is home from school we finally took a trip up there!

We ate lunch at one of the tables by the creek...they ate quick because they wanted to go check out the water and the trails around the picnic area.



Then we picked a trail and decided to walk a little bit...Sydney said she wanted to be the "line leader" like at school :) We walked for a bit then they found this log across the path and wanted to take a break.



We started walking some more, with Sydney in the front, when all of a sudden she stopped and said "A bear!!"

I took a few more steps and caught up to her and couldn't believe my eyes...it was a small bear just up ahead off the trail!! This is the point where I would like to have a picture of the bear but it really took me by surprise and scared me!! I said, "ok, let's go back now!!" and we turned right around and walked the other way!! No need to wait around for mama bear to come chase us!!

Sydney said, "well why couldn't we keep walking?" and I told her that you shouldn't get close to bears because they might not like you and Carter piped in and said "see, I told you I should have brought my gun!!" Crazy boy!!

I was done at that point...time to go home!


We took the parkway back through Big Island...Sydney was impressed with the view from on top of the mountain! I told her we would bring daddy with us next time to chase off any bears ;)
