The snow finally stopped last night so today it was time to play!

Even Emma was hopping about!

The last snow we had wasn't too great for building a snowman. Sydney has been wanting to make a snow-princess and we finally got the chance today! Isn't she beautiful ;)

No school tomorrow...no telling when they'll go back!

more snow for us!!!

It has been snowing all day today! We woke up to about 6 inches or so and it has been steading coming down ever since!

We got up and did the usual pancake routine and it wasn't long before the questions started...
can we go out yet?
where are my snow clothes?
can we go play in the snow?
is it time to go outside?
when can we go out?

I love to go in the snow but this was about 10 am, it was 18 degrees outside, and the snow was blowing everywhere! So I wasn't too anxious to get out there!

We did watch this little fellow up in the dogwood tree for awhile...he was eating berries :)

Finally by 11 we got dressed and headed out! We trudged through the front yard a bit...it was snowing really hard and the wind was blowing too! We measured about 10 inches in the front yard.

Then we ventured out in the back and they played on the playground awhile. Kevin pulled them around on the sleds a bit but then the cold started setting in. Carter got his face wet in the snow and my face was frozen too, so we headed in. Sydney wasn't too far behind! :)

We'll be back out tomorrow!

Super Kid!

Sydney is the "Super Kid" at school this week! This is a special week for the kids...they get to bring in 5 things to share with the class! Her teacher also asked to send in 8-10 pictures. I had fun going back and looking at her baby pictures! Somehow I narrowed it down to 10! ;) I also had to write her life story to include in the Super Kid notebook.

Today I went to help out with her art class...that's always lots of fun. Since lunch is right after art, I stayed and ate with her which she always likes!

Tomorrow I am going to read to her class...that should be interesting too! :)

Sydney loved looking at these pictures!

Here is her life story (which Sydney helped me write)!

Sydney was born in Lynchburg, Virginia on July 20, 2004. She weighed seven pounds and six ounces and was twenty one inches long. She was an adorable little baby with dark blue eyes and a little bit of dark brown hair.

Sydney has a younger brother named Carter who is three years old. She is also about to become a big sister again! Sydney’s baby sister is due to arrive in April and she can’t wait to meet her!

Sydney has lots of pets that she loves! Her dog’s name is Emma and she is a beagle. When Sydney throws her squeaky toy, Emma will usually bring it back! She also has 3 outdoor cats named Thomas, Abby and Bobby. When Sydney is outside, they follow her around wherever she goes!

When she’s not in school, Sydney and her brother love to go outside together and ride bikes, play on the playground and swim in the pool. Sydney learned to swim last summer and we thought she might turn into a fish! When it’s cold outside, Sydney likes to play the Wii…bowling is her favorite game! Her other favorite games are Trouble, Old Maid and Uno.

When Sydney was three years old she took a gymnastics class which was lots of fun. Last summer Sydney played T-ball and she is planning to play again this year! She also enjoys being a Daisy Girl Scout.

Sydney’s favorite animal is a sheep. When she was a baby, she received a stuffed sheep as a present. As she got older, she named the sheep Lambie and he became her favorite animal. She has started collecting stuffed sheep and each of them “sleep” in the bed with her every night!

Some of Sydney’s favorite foods are chicken nuggets, tacos and lasagna. Her favorite places to go eat are Chick-fil-a and La Caretta. She also loves to make homemade ice cream in the summer. Dreamsicle and chocolate are her favorites!

Sydney enjoys having books read to her and loves learning how to read! Some of her favorite books are Llama Llama Mad at Mama, The Little Mermaid and Pinkalicious.

Sydney is a wonderful little girl and so much fun to be around. She can always put a smile on our face and we love her very much!

Roller derby

Sydney and I went to Funquest for a birthday party this afternoon. Sydney really wanted to try roller skating so we gave it a shot! We tried once last summer and it wasn't pretty...and it was pretty much the same situation this time around!

She did make it around the rink (?) once and it looked something like this:

Photobucket

Ha ha! She busted her tail a few times but was grinning the whole time! Once we got all the way around she was ready to move on to something else!

Skating is a lot of fun but it's hard to explain to a 5 year old...guess she just needs practice!

yep, it's black...

He woke up yesterday morning and I told him to go look in the mirror. He came back and said "I wanna show daddy!" So he's not too upset with this look I guess.

Kevin was being watching closely this morning while he was eating breakfast...
The funny thing is the dogs had already eaten. But I guess it never hurts to ask for more!

Carter and I went to eat lunch with Sydney this morning...right before it was time to go her teacher asked if I wanted to take her home with me since school was closing 2 hours early!! We are supposed to get ice this afternoon/tonight but I never thought school would close! Sydney was happy to hear that! She's had a pretty easy week...off Monday, out 2 hours early Wednesday and now today! She's a happy little chick this afternoon :)

Another black eye?

I was cleaning out the car this afternoon and Carter was being such a good helper and taking stuff inside for me. But right when he got to the door his foot caught the sidewalk and he fell and hit his head on the step! Owwww...it was a little bloody scratch on his face so we went and wiped it clean. It welped up a little but he took it pretty well.

(Took a quick pic of his face while he was talking!)

But by tonight it's already starting to puff up a little and looks like it's getting dark. Might be ugly tomorrow! Poor little guy!!

Today Julie took Sydney and Carter out on the town. When she got here, I went out to switch Carter's car seat to her car. While I was tightening it up I looked over and Sydney had already got her car seat, put it in the car and was sitting there buckled up waiting to go!! They were quite excited! They hit up McD's and PetSmart! Thanks Aunt Julie :)

After they left, Kevin and I headed out too! We ate lunch at Olive Garden (mmmmmmmmm) then made a quick Target run.

Maxx had a good day too...that afternoon, Kevin and Carter were headed to the dump so Maxx joined the boys. He loves to ride in the car! He was grinning from ear to ear!

It's warm again!

After weeks of 30 degree (or colder) weather it was actually close to 60 today so we headed out to play for awhile! It was so nice not being wrapped up in heavy coats or gloves or scarves!! Then sun actually felt warm on my skin...ahhhh, come on spring!!

Carter fell right back in where he left off this fall...playing under the tree with his trucks!

And when Sydney got home they took a ride in the gator!

I hope this keeps up!!

A masterpiece...

Sydney brought this home from school last week...they had to finish the sentence and draw a picture to go with it.

They didn't get any help with spelling...I guess with 20 kids in the class the teacher can't go around spelling everything for everyone. So Sydney had to sound it out and spell it on her own...

Photobucket

"In winter, I like to get in my Snuggie and get hot chocolate." And the picture is her on the couch with a mug of hot chocolate!! ha ha!

movie night...

On Saturday, we ordered pizza and spread out a quilt on the floor. We ate in the living room and watched the movie 'Up' that Sydney got for Christmas. They got super excited about that...so did the dogs! (Maxx is on vacation with us for a couple weeks!) We'll have to do it again soon :)

oh, and Carter has been living in this spiderman costume for the past week or so. He brings it to me just about every day and I help him put it on over his clothes...he likes the muscles ;)

Christmas recap...

Christmas seems like forever ago but here's a quick glimpse of the fun...

Photobucket

Things I want to remember:

*Sydney and Carter decorated the snoopy tree and hung every ornament on the bottom branch (or the next one up). I had to make a few adjustments... ;)
*Carter singing Up on the Housetop, Jingle Bells and Jingle Bell Rock in the car...and asking to hear it over and over...
*Sydney knows just about every "traditional" Christmas song. We had a little game; I would whistle a tune and she had to name the song. She could get it in about 3 seconds...I eventually ran out of songs!
*Sydney had a Christmas countdown in her room and for 2 weeks knew exactly how many more days until Christmas!
*Christmas trees as night lights!
*Santa told them to pick up their toys and keep mama happy...I reminded them of that often in December and usually got quick results!
*Once all the presents were wrapped and under the tree, Sydney and Carter got together and pulled them all out. They put them in piles according by name and counted how many presents each person had. Good thing the two of them had the same number to open!!
*Sydney got the card game Old Maid from someone at school...we played that lots over her break. Before she picks a card she says, Don't laugh at me if I get the old maid! (However, it's hilarious if someone else ends up with it!!)
*Emma got a bag of dog treats for Christmas. While we weren't looking, she ripped the bag open and ate the ENTIRE bag! She spent the rest of the day laying on her side looking bloated...

It was lots of fun having everyone home for 2 weeks straight! We had fun playing games, watching movies and anticipating Christmas! We loved every minute of it! But of course it was over too quick and we were soon back into the normal work/school routine!
