first day...

Sydney's first day back went really good! She was happy when she got off the bus...she said she had fun and didn't even have any homework!! She told me about the people sitting around her (one boy she said was really serious! ha ha!) She was excited because she is the line leader for the week!

They had art and PE today...she squawked because she wore sandals to school and had to sit out at one point for PE because she didn't have tennis shoes on (oops! I did think about tennis shoes but had no idea they had PE on Monday's!) We laughed about that!

I asked her about lunch and she said she was hungry and ate everything! She told me I needed to pack more food! She ate a sandwich, strawberries, graham crackers and a granola bar! I figured she would be hungry...she ate breakfast at 6:45 and lunch isn't until 11:40. I would be starving!

~~We just had an earthquake while I was typing this. VERY WEIRD! I thought the wind was blowing hard but things just kept rattling and rattling. So I looked outside and the leaves weren't blowing but the whole house was shaking! Was getting ready to start freaking out and it stopped. WOAH. And Carter just said earthquakes are fun...~~

Anyway, Carter and I made chocolate chip cookies after lunch. We did that last year too...I put a note in Sydney's lunchbox and told her we'd eat cookies when she got home! That was fun!

Ok my train of thought is shot from this earthquake...

Back to school!

Well, the day is finally here...back to school. Ughhhh.
I do not like the earlier start time. I set Sydney's alarm clock this morning and walked back to her room when it was time to get up. She hopped right out of bed and said, see, I'm not even tired!! I told her to remember this later on when I have to drag her out of the bed in the morning!!

She has been excited about going back since she met her teacher last week. I am happy that she is happy!

My big 2nd grader...I see a huge difference in her from her pictures last year. I don't even want to compare her kindy pic :(

Coming home, Carter was telling Allie that they could play all day together! I think he is happy to have Allie to himself for a little while...when Sydney is home she is more of the mother hen ;)

It's kinda sad that the summer is winding down...we probably won't keep the pool open but a few more weeks! Hard to believe...

a little getaway...

We had a little surprise trip planned for Jennifer's birthday...she had no idea! We showed up at her house Monday morning and told her to pack her bags for a girls night out! We stayed at Wintergreen and had fun watching movies, cooking, eating, talking, taking pictures and eating some more ;) I think we all needed a getaway...

sleepover!

I asked Sydney and Carter if they wanted to have a "sleepover" last night in the living room and they could not have been more excited! They pulled out their sleeping bags and stuffed animals and parked themselves in the family room :) We read a few books first then popped some popcorn, turned out all the lights and watched Gnomeo and Juliet and The Indian in the Cupboard. They were actually both cute movies! I told Sydney I had read the book The Indian in the Cupboard a long time ago and told her what it was about. We watched about 30 minutes of it and she said, "This is actually a good movie!" We finally crashed about 12:30...I haven't stayed up that long for a loooong time!!

This morning...

I knew this day was coming...

I saw a black snake in the yard last night...it was HUGE and slowly making his way through the grass. Kevin took care of him though...it was easily 5-6 feet long and very fat **shudder** ughhhhh

Sydney's Sunday school class has learned all the books of the Bible! They learned the New Testament at the end of last year and the Old Testament this year.

I learned the New Testament books during Awana but am not sure if my brain can handle all of the Old Testament books...listen to this!

Allie said hello for the first time on Sunday...she has a toy telephone and puts it up to her ear and says Hello! Later she gave me the phone and I held it up to her ear and said, Hello, this is Allie. She pushed the phone up to my head and said, Mama! Too funny!

I would love to have a video of her talking to the phone but usually when I record her she is more interested in the camera. This video was pure luck!!

oh my goodness....

Look how much Sydney has grown up since August...first day of school vs. last day of school. I just noticed she is wearing the same shorts, ha! (The flowers are for her teacher)

Kevin turned another year younger today...after dinner we got the blowtorch out to light all the candles on his cake, ha! Sydney asked if the smoke detector was going to start beeping...she was serious ;) (For the record, it didn't, but there's always next year...)

Allie has learned this goofy new grin gets her lots of laughs! And it seems she only does it while she's in the highchair...any other time we try to get her to do it, she looks at us like we're crazy or something! I love her gummy little grins!

a productive week....

Well Allie is just a busy gal lately...her first tooth is finally coming in on the bottom! Sydney got her teeth about the same age...Carter on the other hand had about 2 teeth at a time coming in starting around 3 months :p It doesn't seem to bother her either which is even better!!

Then on Tuesday she took 3 steps all by herself! I took her out of the exersaucer and stood her up and she balanced and walked toward me! Sydney and Carter saw it too and were so proud of her! They cheered and clapped and Sydney said "Pretty Girl, you can walk!!!" (Sydney always calls her Pretty Girl)

Then tonight after Allie ate dinner Kevin asked her if she wanted some milk. She looked at him and made the sign for milk! We have been doing that for a week or so now...I started with that one because it's easy, just squeeze your hand several times. That is the neatest thing...hopefully she'll pick up on some new ones soon!!

It's been awhile.

I was in a total February photo funk. I hope March gets better. It's gotta get better. I have had no desire to pick up a camera. I did take pictures...it's not totally undocumented but I can't seem to get into it.

Sydney:

She finished up her basketball season...she had the best time! She was so proud of this "tall" trophy!!


100th day of school!


Daddy/Daughter date night at Chick-fil-a. Wanted a better picture but it was dark and raining outside.


Carter:

We started a chore system for Sydney and Carter to earn some money during the week. Easy things like getting up, brushing teeth, homework, learning their Awana verse and then a couple chores per day and cleaning up at night. Sydney earned $2.50 and Carter got $1.80 the first week. They were totally excited!
He likes to vacuum and help fold towels :)

snow day, minus the snow...

School was closed today...guess the roads were bad because we had about .0001" of "snow" on the ground here!

We took a walk around the yard and the field this afternoon. It was in the 40's and felt pretty good. We found lots of deer tracks...Carter was following them around. He carried his gun too, in case we saw a deer or a bear. Always good to have a man around the house with you!





Carter decided to join us ;)
