Well Sydney's first week of school has come and gone...she had a great time! By the second day she was already begging me to just drop her off in the carpool line so she could walk in by herself. So I did, and she hopped right out, turned around and waved (grinning ear to ear) and trotted on inside. She loves being so independent!
And when I pick her up, her mouth starts flapping before both feet are in the car!
"Mom, look what I made for you today!"
"Mom, I have something for you in my backpack!"
"Guess what, I learned 2 new names today!"
"I ate all my lunch today!"
The record so far is 45 minutes. We got home at 3pm and she talked for 45 minutes about school. I heard everything from the girl that got stung by a bee on the playground, to the boy who got a "frowny face" in class (for not listening), to the fact that she can buy her lunch at school because they have food there!
Needless to say, she is very happy!
And Carter is doing good too! Usually around lunchtime he asks if it's time to go get Sydney yet! So I think he does miss her but on the other hand he likes having all the attention too!
I gave my camera a break this week...only snapped a few pictures but nothing too interesting. Hopefully I will be more motivated next week!

well, here we go...
Sydney's started kindergarten today. She woke up in a good mood and was eager to get going this morning. Kevin stayed home so he could walk her to class, which tickled her! I was glad for the extra support...I got a little teary but if he wasn't there it could have gotten ugly!! ;)
Here she is just itching to go!!

She loves her backpack...she was with me at Target last year & we found it on clearance for 3.75! It's so her!

Carter is wondering what he's gonna do all day without her!!

Walking in...

This afternoon I picked her up and she was all smiles...she said she liked her teacher, made a new friend (but didn't know her name yet) and got to play on the playground! I tried not to bombard her with questions at one time...I kept getting little bits of her day here and there...
*She told me there were a lot of kids in her class but she hadn't learned their names yet. She sits by a boy and a girl.
*She had music class today and it was in the trailer outside behind the school ("we walked outside and up a bridge to get there")
*Her favorite things today were playing on the playground (monkey bars) and rest time on her towel.
*Sydney said the teacher made them wear a crown type hat with their name on it. She said the hats were for everyone to learn each other's name, then frowned up and said, "I can't even read yet!" (It's really more for the teacher to learn the names)
*Her desk has her pink pencil box with crayons and scissors in it. Her cubby holds her towel and her backpack goes in the closet.
*She ate all her lunch (sandwich, goldfish, strawberries & yogurt) and half her snack this afternoon.
*She said some kids go through the line at lunch and get their food there...she told me she wants to do that one day!
*She made a little hand print craft today and brought it home.
Anyway, she had a pretty good little day.
Carter and I did just fine too! I pushed him for 2.5 miles in Wyndhurst this morning and then felt like dying. (Mental note: big hills & pushing 40+ lbs = wobbly legs) And he had the nerve to tell me that he was tired while I was pushing his heavy butt in the stroller! We came home and he played for a bit and took a quick nap then it was time to go again! Guess we'll have a new routine going in no time!!
Here she is just itching to go!!

good job boys!!
Meet the teacher...
Oh my gosh, the summer is almost OVER!! Today we went to meet Sydney's kindergarten teacher. That is all she has thought about this week! Every morning, the first thing out of her mouth is "do I get to meet my teacher today??"
Finally today was the day! We found her class and met her teacher who is very nice. While I filled out some paperwork, she talked to Sydney a bit. She asked a few basic questions like, how to spell her name, etc.
Then she asked, do you have a favorite animal? Sydney said, yes, a camel! The teacher said, well I don't believe anyone has ever told me that before...usually it's a cat or dog! ha ha! Sydney told her that we saw a camel at the zoo and he ate all the food out of our bucket. So at least her answer made sense anyway!!
I asked Sydney later why she didn't say a sheep was her favorite animal, you know, because she only has like 20 stuffed sheep at home in her bed!! She just shrugged and said, I like camels and sheep! Silly girl!
Anyway, the big day is Monday...Sydney is ready!! Am I???

Best buds...
Well, the summer is winding down...I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone by! I always say that but it just never seems to slow down!
These two have certainly made the most of their time left "together" before school starts. They have been inseparable lately, playing all.day.long!! When I was pregnant with Carter I was wondering how well the two of them would play, being a boy and girl. But they get along surprisingly well, the majority of the time! (At least at this age) :)
Hanging out by the pool...I wish I had a penny for every time they jumped off that diving board this year! Jump in, hop out, run back on the diving board and jump right back in!! Over and over!! I'd be rich!!

One hot afternoon I made them a "tent" in the living room. We might as well have been camping in the woods...they got so excited! They made "sleeping bags" out of pillows and blankets, grabbed their favorite stuffed animals and a couple toys and stayed in there for quite awhile!!

Sydney has been "teaching" Carter how to color and stay in the lines. He does good for about a minute then just starts scribbling all over the page! She is a perfectionist and he could care less ;)

Last night they helped Kevin make brownies. This is usually their cooking location...

Carter is sure gonna miss Sydney when she's at school next week...

fresh veggies...
So all this rain we've gotten has really helped our garden...we ended up with a ton of potatoes & green beans, 3 bushels of corn frozen and no telling how much we just ate, peppers and more peppers, and now the tomatoes have finally decided to ripen! I picked these yesterday and made about 5 pints of salsa with them last night...mmmmmmmmm!!! I love having our own garden veggies to eat!!

puddle hopping...
